Easy Watercolor Valentine’s Day Cards

Hello friends. If you like watercolor cards but think you have to be an artist to create them, I’m here to tell you that you don’t. The great thing about watercoloring is that it doesn’t have to be perfect. Also using the correct paper helps; I used both watercolor cardstock as well as multimedia paper to test them both out and see what I prefer.

I used heart shaped wafer dies as stencils for all of these cards. The only thing hand-drawn on these cards are the stems on the flowers and the bow. Let me show you how easy this can be!

For the first card, I cut a piece of Neenah 100lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ to 5-1/2 x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″ to create an A2 card base. Then cut another piece of Strathmore 300 Series Smooth Bristol Paper to 4 x 5-1/4″.

Next, I used a heart die to trace the six hearts onto my paper. Don’t go too dark when drawing. It’ll be easier to erase the remaining pencil lines after you’ve colored everything. I used my Ken Oliver Color Burst Brights Powder for this card. I added splatters with the same colors as well as some gold splatters using the Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi STARRY COLORS.

Once the paint was dry (make sure to let it dry fully), I erased any left over pencil marks and sketched lines around the hearts. Feel free to skip this step or use the dies again to trace around with a pen or marker.

I die cut the sentiment and the border from Tim Holtz Idea-ology 8 x 8 Metallic Gold & Silver Kraft Stock Paper using the Lawn Fawn’s Henry’s ABCs and Lawn Fawn Stitched Scalloped Rectangle Frames.

On the inside of the card, I cut a strip of gold cardstock (same as the front panel) to 1 x 4-1/4″ and stamped another sentiment from the Lawn Fawn Henry’s Build-A-Sentiment – Love Stamp Set with Catherine Pooler Designs It’s a Girl Ink.

Dimensions

For the second card, I cut a piece of Neenah 100lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ to 4-1/4 x 11″ and scored at 5-1/2″ to create an A2 card base. Then cut another piece of Watercolor Paper to 4 x 5-1/4″ and a piece of Tim Holtz Idea-ology 8 x 8 Metallic Gold & Silver Kraft Stock Paper to 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″.

I used a large heart die to trace the heart onto my paper. I used my Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolor Paint Set for this card. I added splatters with the same colors as well as some gold splatters using the Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi STARRY COLORS. Once dried, I erased any left over pencil marks and sketched lines around the hearts.

I die cut the sentiment 3x from Neenah 100lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ and stacked them. I also stamped the rest of the sentiment from Lawn Fawn Henry’s Build-A-Sentiment – Love Stamp Set onto Neenah 100lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.

I finished the card by adding some Metallic Bright Gold Nuvo Drops.

On the inside of the card, I stamped a sentiment combining the Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy and Happy Happy Happy Add-on Stamp Sets with Catherine Pooler Designs Rockin’ Red Ink.

Dimensions

For the third card, I cut a piece of Neenah 100lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ to 5-1/5 x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″ to create an A2 card base. Then cut another piece of Watercolor Paper to 4-1/4 x 5-1/2″.

Again I used some heart dies of various sizes to trace them. Then I used my Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolor Paint Set combined with the Kuretake Gansai Tambi STARRY COLORS. I mixed the pink color with the silvery watercolor. I added splatters with the same colors.

I used the Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle Frame to die cut the frame from the background panel. I added black cardstock behind the panel cut to 4 x 5-1/4″ and popped up the frame using Foam Strips.

I die cut the sentiment from Neenah 100lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ using the Lawn Fawn Scripty XOXO and the shadow from Tim Holtz idea-ology 8 x 8 Paper Stash Metallic Jewels Kraft Stock and the Lawn Fawn Scripty XOXO Outline Add-on Die. I also stamped a sentiment from Lawn Fawn Henry’s Build-A-Sentiment – Love onto Neenah 100lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.

I finished off the card by adding some Ebony Black Nuvo Crystal Drops.

I left the inside of the card blank.

Dimensions

For the last card, I cut a piece of Neenah 100lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ to 4-1/4 x 11″ and scored at 5-1/2″ to create an A2 card base. Then cut another piece of Strathmore 300 Series Smooth Bristol Paper to 4-1/4 x 5-1/2″.

Again I used some heart dies of various sizes to trace them and create a bouquet. I drew sticks for the stems and a simple bow. Then used my Ken Oliver Color Burst Brights Powder and Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolor Paint Set to color the bouquet. And the Kuretake Gansai Tambi STARRY COLORS to color the bow.

I added some splatters with the pink and gold. I stamped a sentiment with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink directly onto the card. I die cut a frame from Tim Holtz Idea-ology 8 x 8 Metallic Gold & Silver Kraft Stock Paper using the Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle Frame.

I finished the card by adding some Metallic Bright Gold Nuvo Drops.

I left the inside of the card blank.

Easy Circle Shaped St. Patrick’s Day Card featuring Trinity Stamps

Hello friends. Here’s a very easy St. Patrick’s Day card using the Circle Shaped Card Die Set from Trinity Stamps as well as the Leprechaun Loot Die Set.

For this card, I die cut a piece of Neenah 100lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ with Trinity Stamps Circle Shaped Card Die Set to create a card base. Then also die cut a circle, measuring 4″ with the Sizzix Framelits Circle Die Set.

I used the Lawn Fawn Corner Rainbow Stencils with Tim Holtz Picked Raspberry, Squeezed Lemonade, Mowed Lawn, Salty Ocean, and Villainous Potion Distress Oxide Inks to create the rainbow and My Favorite Things Mini Cloud Edges Mix-ables Stencils with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Inks for the sky.

I die cut the pot of gold from Simon Says Stamp 100lb Black Cardstock and the gold from DCWV The Glitzy Glitter 12 x 12″ Cardstock Stack with the Trinity Stamps Leprechaun Loot Die Set. I added some shamrocks cut from Simon Says Stamp 100lb Green Apple Cardstock and Simon Says Stamp 100lb Green Leaf Cardstock.

I added a sentiment using the Simon Says Stamp Sentiment Strips Reverse Lucky. I popped it up using 3M Foam Tape. I finished off the card by adding some sequins in rainbow colors.

On the inside of the card, stamped a sentiment from the Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy Add-on with Catherine Pooler Designs Midnight Ink and added more shamrocks.

3 Easy Watercolor Cards

Hello friends. Here are some easy watercolor cards anyone can make! While I am an artist I am not super comfortable doing freehand watercolor paintings. But these 3 cards were very easy to make. If you cannot draw either use a stencil, die or printable to trace a simple drawing. I used this technique for one of my cards. More on this later…

For the first card, I cut a piece of Neenah 100lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ to 5-1/2 x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″ to create a card base and a piece to Watercolor Paper to 3-3/4 x 5″. I also cut a piece of Doodlebug Dot Stripe Rainbow Petite Prints 6×6 Paper to 4-1/4 x 5-1/2″.

I did a quick sketch for the egg (I actually used an egg shaped framelit die to trace the outside). I used my Kuretake GANSAI TAMBI Watercolor Paint Set (I love this set!) to color the egg. I kept the coloring simple – one color and white. You can be as elaborate with your painting as you like though. Once the egg and grass were colored and dry, I added some splatters with some Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi STARRY COLORS. Then I added some sketchy lines around the egg with a 0.5 Sakura Pigma Micron Fineliner Pen.

I used the Simon Says Stamp Foil Transfer Cards Fancy Happy Easter Splendor with Therm O Web Gina K Designs GLIMMERING GOLD Fancy Foil Deco Foil for the sentiment and fussycut it out. And then also used a sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp REVERSE EASTER WISHES Sentiment Strips.

On the inside of the card, I cut a strip of pattern a paper from Doodlebug Dot Stripe Rainbow Petite Prints 6×6 Paper to 1 x 4-1/4″. And added another sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp REVERSE EASTER WISHES Sentiment Strips.

Dimensions

For the second card, I cut a piece of Neenah 100lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ to 5-1/2 x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″ to create a card base and a piece of Watercolor Paper to 4 x 5-1/4″.

While I do not have a picture of the sketch to show you, I just drew very basic shapes for the balloons. They don’t have to be perfect. If you feel like you cannot draw them, get an image from the internet etc and trace it or use stencils or dies. Again very simple painting here. This time I used one color plus a White Gold watercolor from the Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi STARRY COLORS.

I added the balloon strings using my 0.5 Sakura Pigma Micron Fineliner Pen.

I stamped a sentiment from the Stampin’ Up! Endless Birthday Wishes Stampset (retired) and Catherine Pooler Designs Midnight Ink. I finished off the card by adding some highlights to the balloons with a Uni-ball Signo White Broad Point Gel Pen and some Tonic Ebony Black Nuvo Drops.

On the inside of the card, I stamped a sentiment from Stampinโ€™ Up! Biggest Wish (retired) with Catherine Pooler Designs Midnight Ink.

Dimensions

For the third card, I cut a piece of Neenah 100lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ to 5-1/2 x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″ to create a card base, a piece to Watercolor Paper to 4 x 5-1/4″ and a piece of Tim Holtz Idea-ology 8 X 8 Paper Stash Metallic Kraft Stock. to 4-1/4 x 5-1/2″.

The sketch for this card was super simple. I drew 3 hearts and a stem. I used my Kuretake GANSAI TAMBI Watercolor Paint Set again. And finished the background by adding some splatters with White and Gold Acrylic paint.

I die cut the sentiment word from Tim Holtz Idea-ology 8 X 8 Paper Stash Metallic Kraft Stock using the Simon Says Stamp Fancy Lucky Wafer Dies. And added a sentiment strip from the Simon Says Stamp Reverse Lucky Sentiment Strips.

On the inside of the card, I added a strip of metallic paper cut to 1 x 4-1/4″ and stamped a sentiment from Happy Happy Happy Add-on with Catherine Pooler Designs Lime Rickey Ink.

Honey Bee Stamps House Builder Valentine’s Day Card

Hi friends. I used the House Builder Card Base Dies from Honey Bee Stamps along with the Treat Shop Add-On Dies and Stamps to make this cute Valentineโ€™s Day Card. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to make another card with these dies. They are still one of my faves!

For this card, I started by cutting a piece of Neenah 110lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ to 10 x 7″and scored it at 5″ and a panel to 5 x 7″ for the background, which I inked with Tim Holtz Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean Distress Inks. Then diecut the house card base 1x with the House Builder Card Base Dies from Pebbles Forever My Always 6 x 6 Paper.

Then die cut the roof and window awnings from both Neenah 110lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ and Stampin’ Up! Real Red 8-1/2″ X 11″ Cardstock from the Honey Bee Stamps Treat Shop Add-On Dies. I cut out every other strip on the awnings and adhered them to the white one to create a cute striped awning. I diecut out the window from the front of the card.

The door was diecut from the same two color cardstocks using the Honey Cuts Gingerbread House Add-On and the stairs from Simon Says Stamp Card Stock 100# Slate Gray Cardstock. I added some dimension to the house base, the door, steps, and awning with ink. I used Catherine Pooler Pink Champagne for the house base, Stampin’ Up! Real Red Ink for the roof and door and Memento Tuxedo Black Ink for the steps. I also diecut the bushes from Stampin’ Up! Old Olive 8-1/2 x 11″ Cardstock with the House Builder Card Base Dies and added Stampin’ Up! Old Olive Ink around the edges.

I added a piece of Vellum behind the window as well as a piece of Neenah 110lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ to create a frosted window appearance. I added a strip of Simon Says Stamp Card Stock 100# FOG Gray Cardstock to the bottom of the card before adhering the house. I stamped all the images from the Honey Bee Stamps Treat Shop Add-On 6×6 Stamp Set onto Neenah 110lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. Additionally, I used Clear Embossing Powder on the “Candy Shop” and “We Are Open” signs for some added dimension and interest.

I colored them with Copic Markers. I used BG000 and Copic Blender 0 for all glass elements (cake dome, candy dome and gumball machine); R81 & R83, C1, C3, & C5 for the chairs and table; R14 & R27, R81 & R83 for the umbrella. E25 & E29, R81, R83 & R85, C1 & 0 for the cupcakes; R14 & R27, C00 & 0, BG000, G94 and E25 for the gumball machine; E25 & E29 for the chocolates; R81, R83 & R85 for the present; and G94 & G99, R81 & R83, E25 & E29, R14 & R27 for the candies.

I popped up the “Candy Shop” sign, “We Are Open” sign and the cake dome with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I created the heart banner by stamping the little heart from Honey Bee Stamps Little Pickup 4×6 Stamp Set with Stampin’ Up! Real Red Ink onto a piece of and cut them using the coordinating dies. Then I drew a black line using a Sharpie Ultra Fine Point Marker (you need to use a permanent marker when writing on vellum or it will smudge).

I finished off the card by adding some highlights to some of the images with a White Gel Pen.

On the inside of the card, I stamped a sentiment from Lawn Fawn’s Happy Happy Happy Add-on Stampset with Stampin’ Up! Real Red Ink and added a tiny awning which I cut from Neenah 110lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ and Stampin’ Up! Real Red 8-1/2″ X 11″ Cardstock using the Honey Bee Stamps Treat Shop Add-On Dies. I added some left over images I had colored and die cut.

Stretching Your Stamps: Valentine’s Day Cards

Hello friends. I came across these two birthday gift stampsets I have from Lawn Fawn while organizing and thought they would be cute on some Valentine’s Day card. These stamp sets are meant for birthdays but why not try to make Valentine’s Day cards instead. Itโ€™s time to challenge myself.

I used the Lawn Fawn, Party Pig, which I received as my birthday gift from Lawn Fawn in 2021 but also decide to use the Party Panda stamp set I received in 2020 as well. I combined them with the Giant Be My Valentine sentiment die to create a lovely focal image. Combining this die and some pattern papers helped me create two very quick cards!

For the first card, I cut a piece of Neenah 110lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ to 5-1/2 x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″ to create the card base. Then cut another panel of Simple Stories – Sweet Talk Collection – 6 x 8 Papers (had some left over from my SSS Feb 2021 Card Kit – Love You Beary) to 4 x 5-1/4″.

I diecut a piece of Stampin’ Up! Real Red 8-1/2 x 11″ Cardstock with the Lawn Fawn Lacy Heart Stackables which I embossed it using the Crafters Companion Embossalicious Grand Dots Embossing Folder (retired but I linked a similar one).

I diecut the sentiment from Neenah 110lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ (3x) using the Lawn Fawn Giant Be My Valentine Die and stacked them.

I stamped the panda image and cupcake from the Lawn Fawn Party Panda mini stampset (2020 birthday gift with purchase) onto Neenah 110lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.

I colored them with Copic markers. Then I used C1 & 0 to add shading to the panda; R81, 83, & 85 for the cupcake, E23 & E29 for the cupcake wrapper, and R17 for the cherry on top of the cupcake. I die cut all the images with the coordinating dies and added some Stampin Dimensionals to the panda before adhering to the card. And added some Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear Mix Cupped Sequins to finish it.

On the inside of the card, I stamped a sentiment the Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy add-on Stamps with Stampin’ Up! Real Red Ink.

Dimensions

For the second card, I cut a piece of Neenah 110lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ to 5-1/2 x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″ to create the card base. Then cut another panel of Simple Stories – Sweet Talk Collection – 6 x 8 Papers (had some left over from my SSS Feb 2021 Card Kit – Love You Beary) to 4 x 5-1/4″.

I diecut a piece of Vellum Cardstock with the Lawn Fawn Lacy Heart Stackables which I embossed it using the Crafters Companion Embossalicious Grand Dots Embossing Folder (retired but I linked a similar one).

I diecut the sentiment from Neenah 110lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ (2x) and one from Stampin’ Up! Red Foil 12 x 12 Cardstock (retired) using the Lawn Fawn Giant Be My Valentine Die and stacked them together.

I stamped the pig and gift images from the Lawn Fawn Party Pig mini stampset (2021 birthday gift with purchase) onto Neenah 110lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored them with Copic markers. I used RV52, RV55, RV66, C1, C3, C7 & 0 to for the pig; R17 & R27, E29 & E27 for the gift. I die cut all the images with the coordinating dies.

I added some Stampin Dimensionals to the pig before adhering to the card. And added some Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear Mix Cupped Sequins to finish it.

On the inside of the card, I stamped a sentiment the Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy add-on Stamps with Stampin’ Up! Real Red Ink.

Gingerbread House Card featuring Honey Bee Stamps

Do you love decorating gingerbread houses but don’t like the mess? Fear not I have the perfect craft for you! This gingerbread house features Honey Bee Stamps Gingerbread House Add-On Stamps and Dieset. Combine it with the House Builder Card Dieset to make tons of cute house cards for all occasions.

For this card, I started by diecutting the house card base 2x with the House Builder Card Dies, chimney (from Honey Cuts Gingerbread House Add-on), and one gable from Lawn Fawn Paper Bag 8-1/2 x 11″ Cardstock, the roof, 2 scalloped windows, the scallop door frame, the round gable window and snow for roof and chimney from Neenah 110lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″, the door from Simon Says Stamp Surf Blue 8-1/2 x 11″ Cardstock. I inked around the edges of all those pieces with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. I wanted to make the gingerbread and frosting look more like real so using the ink especially around the “cookie” pieces helps give it dimension.

I adhered the two houses with the pre-scored strip that comes in the House Builder Card Base Dies to create the card base. Be sure to use double-sided tape or something very strong so they don’t come apart. Then stenciled a brick pattern on the front of the card using Gathered Twigs Distress Ink and Tim Holtz Bricked Layering Stencil. I diecut small rectangle window frame from the House Builder Card Dieset with Simon Says Stamp Schoolhouse Red 110lb 8-1/2 x 11″ Cardstock and the window and door inside pieces from Neenah 110lb Classic Crest Cardstock 8.5 X 11″ using the circle and rectangle dies from Honey Cuts Gingerbread House Add-on and the House Builder Card Base Dies and inked with Tim Holtz Mustard Seed Distress Ink Pads.

I adhered the roof, windows, gable the scallop door frame, the round gable window and snow and door to the card.

I used Stampin’ Up! Old Olive 8-1/2″ X 11″ Cardstock for trees, wreath and some gumdrops, Simon Says Stamp Schoolhouse Red 110lb 8-1/2 x 11″ Cardstock for some gumdrops, the wreath bow, and berries on wreath, Simon Says Stamp Surf Blue 8-1/2 x 11″ Cardstock for gumdrops, Neenah Classic Crest, 80lb Solar White for all the peppermints and two candy canes (which I colored with Tim Holtz Festive Berries Distress Marker), Stampin’ Up Chocolate Chip 8-1/2″ X 11″ Cardstock (discontinued) for the chocolate kisses and the tree trunks (which I stamped with the tree trunk stamp from Gingerbread House Add-On Stamps and Gathered Twigs Distress Ink), and a gold metallic paper for the door knob, diecut with the House Builder Card Base Dies. I also stamped two lollipops from the Gingerbread House Add-On Stamps and Memento Tuxedo Black Ink onto Neenah Classic Crest, 80lb Solar White and colored them with Tumbled Glass and Peeled Paint Distress Markers.

Once adhered to the card, I added sparkle to the snow on the roof, chimney and gumdrops with a Spectrum Noir CLEAR OVERLAY Sparkle Pen, some “snow” with Nuvo Crystal Drops in Gloss White and white higlights with Uni-Ball Signo Broad Point White Gel Pen.

On the inside of the card, I stamped a sentiment from the Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy Add-On Stamps.
